It’s that time of year again: at Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Call of Duty announced Black Ops 7, one of the most futuristic entries in the series yet. The trailer starts off with a guided tour of a cutting-edge weapons facility, presented by a talking robot that looks like it escaped the set of Chappie.

And when the camera finally focuses on the face of the character, we see David Mason, the protagonist of Black Ops II. After touching a display, Mason sees a series of shifting landscapes, from an overgrown area riddled with shipping containers to a cityscape unfolding like something from Inception.

The YouTube description reads, “The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Wielding cutting-edge technology, the Black Ops team led by David Mason must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.”

The Black Ops 7 reveal was largely cinematic and revealed little in the way of gameplay, but the last few seconds of the trailer show what looks to be another iteration of Warzone, Call of Duty’s battle royale mode. You can see a large area with four players dropping in through the use of wingsuits.

Characters are seen appearing out of thin air through the use of stealth technology. If Black Ops 7 follows the patterns set by its predecessors, the game will have an interesting single-player campaign supported by extensive multiplayer modes that will keep you immersed long after you’ve explored every nook and cranny.

As of now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 doesn’t have a release date. However, Activision says the game will launch in 2025, so you can look for it sometime within the next six months.

Black Ops 6 devs explain the movement system changes
Call of Duty Black Ops 6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is arguably one of the most popular games on the internet at the moment. After all, when has a CoD game not been popular? The game has generated a decent amount of controversy surrounding its new Omnimovement system, and one of the developers has weighed in to explain.

The decision to swap to a different movement style all started with fluidity, according to Yale Miller, Matt Scronce, and VGC. Where Modern Warefare 2 was a much slower experience, Black Ops 6 feels faster, more frenetic, and most importantly, much more fluid. Miller said, "When we think about some of the favourite [entries], something that was there was that fluid feel. So that’s where we really started: what could we bring to that, and what rules could we break."

Most of us knew that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 would be one of the biggest games of the year, but it's so big that it's doing a lot to boost games sales across the U.S.

This information comes from Circana (formerly NPD Group), which publishes a monthly report on U.S. video game spending. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, spending on hardware, software, and accessories was up 10% in October compared to the same time last year, and the spike was "primarily" driven by the release of Black Ops 6. Non-mobile video game subscription service spending was also up by 16%.

Do your dailies

We'll get the most obvious tip out of the way first. Daily challenges are back and work just as they always have. Every 24 hours you will be given a handful of small optional tasks to complete for a heap of bonus XP. These can be things like getting Scorestreak kills, getting Point Blank Kills, and getting kills with a specific weapon type. Most daily challenges are worth 2,500 XP, which is already a nice bonus, but there is also a fourth one that can be worth between 3,000 and 5,000 additional XP. Each day you log on, you should prioritize your daily challenges.
