A Simple Favor 2 now has an official title and premiere date. Another Simple Favor will be the opening night film of SXSW on March 7, 2025.

Another Simple Favor marks the return of Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson, respectively. The two friends will reunite on the island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. “Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square,” per the logline.

Reprising their roles for the sequel are Andrew Rannells as Darren, Bashir Salahuddin as Detective Summerville, and Henry Golding as Henry Golding. The film also stars Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Alex Newell, and Allison Janey.

“When we saw this film last fall, we instantly knew it had to open SXSW – it gave us that electric feeling we live for as programmers,” said Claudette Godfrey, VP Film & TV. “Paul Feig and SXSW share an unmatched love for bold, fearless comedy. From that unforgettable late-night screening of Bridesmaids to Spy‘s raucous world premiere, his films capture exactly what makes our festival special – wildly entertaining projects that push boundaries. We’re beyond excited to reunite with Paul and kick off the festival with a film that had our entire team laughing, cheering, and immediately wanting to watch it again!”

I have a simple favor to ask you… can you save the date? #AnotherSimpleFavor from @AmazonMGMStudio is premiering as the opening night film at @SXSW in Austin on March 7th. And then we hit @PrimeVideo on May 1st. Stay tuned for more details and much more fun! 🍸🍸🍸☠️☠️☠️ pic.twitter.com/dQJ1GiPqyv

Paul Feig returns to direct Another Simple Favor from a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. Released by Lionsgate in 2018, A Simple Favor grossed over $97 million on a $20 million budget.

It is unknown if Lively will attend the world premiere at SXSW. Lively is in a high-profile legal battle with Justin Baldoni, which stems from their time working together on It Ends with Us.

Amazon MGM Studios will release Another Simple Favor on Prime Video on May 1, 2025.

A Simple Favor 2 director disputes claim that Blake Lively film has been scrapped
Anna Kendrick points a camera at Blake Lively in A Simple Favor.

Director Paul Feig is adamant that moviegoers will still get to see A Simple Favor 2, the sequel to his Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively-led 2018 film, sometime this year. The movie's status was briefly thrown into question on Friday when a user named Eric B. posted an X thread claiming that behind-the-scenes tensions between Kendrick and Lively, as well as the latter's alleged refusal to promote it amidst her ongoing lawsuit against her It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni, had forced Amazon to shelve A Simple Favor 2 indefinitely.

Feig used his X account to respond to the claims on Friday, writing, "This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days." When the X thread's creator responded to Feig by asking why Amazon hasn't set a release date or made any promotional plans yet "for a film that wrapped in April 2024," the director wrote back, "My friend, it’s called post-production, which generally takes over half a year at least."

A TSA agent puts an earpiece in his ear.

Carry-On continues to be a streaming juggernaut on Netflix. The holiday thriller is now the fifth-most-popular Netflix movie in the streamer's history, with 149.5 million views since its December 13 release.

Due to its popularity, questions about a sequel have gained traction. Carry-On director Jaume Collet-Serra revealed that talks with Netflix about Carry-On 2 have not happened, but he's open to the idea.
“We don’t have any plans for a sequel,” Collet-Serra said via Variety. “But if audiences wanted a sequel, families wanted a sequel, and if we had an idea that would spark and live up to the original, maybe we would do something. But right now, there are no plans.”
In Carry-On, Taron Egerton plays Ethan Kopek, a TSA officer working at Los Angeles International Airport on Christmas Eve. While working the security line, Ethan finds an earbud and converses with an unknown person, the Traveler (Jason Bateman). The Traveler orders Ethan to let a mysterious carry-on bag pass through security, no questions asked. If Ethan refuses, the Traveler will kill his pregnant girlfriend, Nora (Sofia Carson). Refusing to comply, Ethan races to find the Traveler, intercept the package, and prevent it from getting on a plane.
